Privacy
What we know about you. Spoiler: not much.
The short version
We do not track you. We do not run advertising. We do not set tracking cookies. We do not sell anything, including your email address. The site reads more or less like a static document. The long version below exists because privacy regulations expect it to, and because some readers want the specifics.
What we collect ourselves
In your browser, nothing. The site runs no scripts that record your behavior, no fingerprinting, no session replay.
If you email us at [email protected], we keep the email so we can respond and keep a record of corrections. We do not add your address to a mailing list. We do not share it with anyone. If you ask us to delete the thread, we do.
What our infrastructure sees
Two external services touch the page when you load it. We disclose both.
- Cloudflare Pages. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare logs IP addresses at the edge for security and abuse prevention (DDoS, bot mitigation, that kind of thing). Cloudflare's data handling is governed by their privacy policy. We do not have access to the raw edge logs.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics. We use Cloudflare's built-in analytics to count page views and see which articles get read. It uses no cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and reports aggregate numbers only. No IP addresses, no device IDs, no individual tracking. If you want the technical detail, Cloudflare publishes how it works.
Fonts are self-hosted from our own domain. No request to Google Fonts, no IP address shared with a third-party type foundry.
What we do not do
- No tracking cookies. The site sets none.
- No third-party advertising or ad networks.
- No browser fingerprinting.
- No selling, renting, or sharing email addresses.
- No profiling for behavioral targeting.
- No social media trackers (Facebook Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, and friends are not on this site).
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act and Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), or another data protection regime. These rights generally include access, correction, deletion, and (in some jurisdictions) the right to object to processing.
In practice, the only personal data we hold about you is whatever you have sent us in an email. We do not sell or share personal data, and we have no behavioral profiles to delete. To exercise a right, email [email protected] and we will respond.
For data Cloudflare holds (edge logs, analytics aggregates), Cloudflare is the data processor and their privacy policy applies.
Children
Artificial Ideas is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone in that age group.
Links to other sites
We link out a lot. Articles cite sources and point to tools, demos, papers, and forum threads. Once you click through, you are subject to whatever privacy practices that site has. We do not control them. We do try to flag when an outbound link goes somewhere with notably different privacy norms.
Updates to this page
We date-stamp this page at the top. If we change anything material (a new analytics tool, a new third-party service, a different hosting setup), we update the date and note the change. If you want to see what changed historically, the site is in version control and we can dig up old revisions on request.
